Since the dawn of the internet and more fundementally software in general, there has always been issues with compatibility, usability and accessibility. So how does this effect the web?.. and more importantly our clients?? Well the internet is an open system, which means that almost any computer software or hardware can be rigged up to access it from PC to Mac, Laptop, Desktop, Phones, Media Centers and TV's, the list is probably limitless. There are also many types of Browser software such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Firefox , Opera, to name but a few! You will find that a website created without consideration of how these other computers and web browsers read and present your website to users, you could find that a good chunk of your possible audience and therefore customers, may not even be able to interact with your website or in some cases wont be able to see it at all! For this reason the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) set out a series of web standards. They also set out standards for accessibility for those with disabilities, such as the presentation of alternative explanatory text for images, which are used when a screen reader system is used in replacement of visual output for blind people.
