Web Standards

Since the dawn of the internet and more fundementally software in general, there has always been issues with compatibility, usability and accessibility.
Some software will only run on certain computer hardware, the portability of sofware and files between Windows machines and Apple Mac computers its one of the finest examples. Although these gaps seem to be closing as Interoperability is pushed harder into the software industry by the demands of the consumer.

So how does this effect the web?.. and more importantly our clients??

Well the internet is an open system, which means that almost any computer software or hardware can be rigged up to access it from PC to Mac, Laptop, Desktop, Phones, Media Centers and TV's, the list is probably limitless.
These computer systems could be running one of many types of operating system available such as Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac OSX and more. (yes there isnt only Windows in the world!)

There are also many types of Browser software such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Firefox , Opera, to name but a few!

You will find that a website created without consideration of how these other computers and web browsers read and present your website to users, you could find that a good chunk of your possible audience and therefore customers, may not even be able to interact with your website or in some cases wont be able to see it at all!

For this reason the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) set out a series of web standards.
On a fundamental level these standards are used by website designers as well as software developers in an effort to ensure that all systems display websites correctly, and in a uniform way.

They also set out standards for accessibility for those with disabilities, such as the presentation of alternative explanatory text for images, which are used when a screen reader system is used in replacement of visual output for blind people.

As a company we specifically work to W3C standards for this reason, along with the obvious benefit that this brings within the Search Engines and the commercial benefit of ensuring the broadest possible client base can access products and services.
